I only know 2 sequels to "Gone With the Wind", "Scarlett" by Alexandra Ripley and "Rhett Butler's People" by Donald McCraig. So, which one do you think is better? Or if you've only read one of them, what did you think? In my opinion "Scarlett" is not horrible. It feels like reading another novel, and another version of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler, but it's not bad. It's not a good sequel but it's not a bad book. And as for "Rhett Butler's People" I don't like how the focus keeps shifting. And because it talks about Rhett's childhood and explains why he is the person he is today...it sort of ruins the mysteriousness (is that a word?:redface I love about Rhett in "Gone With the Wind" What did you think?
I had never heard of the second one, but I really enjoyed Scarlet when I read it in high school. I think it could have done a better job of staying true to the overall feel of the first book, but it was a decent read. I'll have to check out Rhett Butler's People. I'm intrigued...
I refuse to read the actual books, but with good reason. It's not the same author writing the sequels, so they naturally won't be as good as the original. I refuse to read the books that make the actual classic look bad.
