  1. Self Plagerizism

Anyone ever look back on their old work and realized they've duplicated scenes? Even bits of dialogue. It's freaky. I've been typing an old story from paper into my computer to preserve it. I haven't read the story - fully - in decades and I'm shocked to find I've duplicated several scenes. In my old work I have a young girl talking to an older man - she asks am I ugly? - he says fishing for compliments? I gave the same scene to my younger man and his director - two decades later. Creepy....
  2. Things that you can’t have just one of…

Things that you can’t have just one of… Top of everyone’s list is chips (crisps in the UK). That intoxicating mixture of fats and carbs gets me every time. I’m a kettle-chip lover, salt and vinegar. Not everyone likes the vinegar chips, but they are my favourite. And of course chocolate. I got a good supply of Lindt Lindor chocolates for Christmas. Can’t eat just one. Maybe some people can, but I bet it takes will power. Cups of coffee. Gotta have three or four every morning. Recent...
  3. Perfect Bananas

Perfect Bananas Can you imagine them? Without blemish or bruise or speckle, a uniform yellow colour, maybe a hint of green at the corners and stems. Perfect bananas are rare. Not surprising, considering the long journey they make from where they grew to where they will meet their fate. But I can really appreciate a perfect banana. It’s a thing of surreal beauty. Look at it, resplendent in its excellence. Slightly curved, like a knowing grin. Really something to look at. Kinda showing off....

  4. Side stories in a novel.

I have begun to take a closer look at an idea I encountered in "the Wandering inn" Series by Pirataba. The main story is on the theme of the fool triumphant, save the cat story type. But in addition to POV shifts between characters, the author also inserts side stories into the series, which have different characters are are shorts embedded within the novel. These shorts are related to the fantasy world of the story, but instead of distracting from the story, serve to flesh out the story...
  5. The Death of My Father

My father killed himself when I was around ten years old. I can not remember the date nor even how old I actually was. Family members are the ones who need to remind me of the date and my age when I ask about his death. It struck me hard, I was nearly apathetic and very silent for many months afterwards, much contrary to my usual personality. When he died, it was like an awakening to a harsh truth. That everyone you will ever meet and love, can and will eventually perish. This set me back...
  6. There’s Always More

So ...remember that guy...the one I wrote about on the other blog post. You know that I talked to non-stop for a whole day until I fell asleep on him that evening and then hadn't heard a peep from him the next day. Well, I heard from him that evening, we actually continued to talk for a few more days before, actually meeting in person. Yeah, you read that correctly, I officially meet someone from the site in real life lol. We have pretty much been together almost non-stop since we met,...
  7. Secondary characters

I have been thinking about one of my secondary characters, lately. So far I have set him up as the stereotypical big dumb brute. But I wanted to explore him more for the readers. So I gave him a pov scene all his own. Due to his race, fantasy genre, he has a speech impediment, so I went completely internal dialogue for the scene. I went back into his memories, instead of an actual flashback, to show some of his past trauma, and establish more of his character arc, even though he is basically...
  8. Concepts

Concepts A concept is whatever my mind can conjure. A mental picture. I have a concept of a cat. It is a four-legged, furry creature, purrs, smaller than a dog. I base that concept on observation. I have a concept of freedom. This requires a lot more input. Freedom is the absence of outside restraints. Freedom is the realization of who my most authentic self is. Freedom releases me. Freedom is valued. Concepts are formed in different ways. The more abstract the concept, the more thinking...
  9. What no one tells you about Online Dating .....

One thing is that there actually are different types of online dating. :superconfused: So generally, people go online, they make their profiles and either try to fill out a bunch of stuff, or they say nothing at all. However, the intent is generally universal, you are trying to meet someone. Right? Obviously, what you are looking for can be different, as in ...just someone to talk to, just someone to hook up with, someone to love, someone to spend the rest of your life with. I'm sure most...
  10. Random Thoughts on Intentions

Random Thoughts on Intentions Intentions are abstract things. The idea before execution. The starting point. Intentions are the necessary precursor to action. There can be no movement without first intention. Intentions alone have no movement. They sit. Intentions do not count if they collapse in on themselves. Intentions are always stated in the future tense. “I will…” or “I’m going to…” Intentions are an investment in the future. Intentions require vision. You have to see something...
  11. What is that song!

Ever have one of those days where you just cannot get a song out of your head? I have had this song stuck in my head all day. I literally could not hear any other part of it in my mind except for this: " Ever know when the time is right to take the reins. Down the road they're gonna find out anyway but it's too late Ya know leaches like pretending that they're everything they're not. I don't like it, I don't need, I don't want it. " Yeah, that is it, all I can hear, kudos to anyone who...
  12. Southpaw

This morning I spent the first hour of my day practicing on the keyboard. I actually like starting my day out one of two ways. Either practicing the keys or working out. I know seems like very different ways to start a day out. However, it is what I enjoy. Anyway, so this morning it was the keys. :-) Since I had successfully played ' The longest time' at my friends, Let's call her Sarah, house Sunday night when we were hanging out without needing my sheet music. I decided I had at the...
  13. Yesterday

openly saying what is on my mind has never been easy. I used to keep journals when I was younger. But haven't had one since I was 13/14. So, this experience could get awkward lol. Yesterday I was working on rewriting Dark, since I received so much good, helpful feedback from people on here. Well, my best friend was at work, and started texting me because it was extremely slow and boring. (she is a bartender) So, I suggested I come just sit up there with her, I could bring my laptop,...
  14. The experiment with POV (750 words). Feedback encouraged.

Here are three of the PoV shifts, of a total of six for the chapter. I am trying to show both sides of the battle by doing this, and keep the events in Chronological order. Rather than repeat the events from the opposing POV in a second scene. Does this work, or is it just confusing to the reader? The intruders came charging into the temple. How dare they invade the sacred space like this! He would teach them some manners. With a gesture, his undead began moving toward the invaders....
