That sucks. But you got a letter explaining why so thats a good thing This has happened to me before, only the journal never reached out and never responded to any if my followup emails. The issue that i'd gotten accepted for just never published and the site is no longer active
A 37-day personal rejection from Uncharted Magazine. I really want to get into this pub, and it seems like I'm getting close or closish. Anyway, they are a great genre magazine that I'll keep trying with my science fiction and fantasy stories. And I'm hooked as a reader and a fan. 2023 rejection count: 38
It's weird, I haven't received an agent rejection for over two weeks now. I got a couple more short story ones, though. A 10-day form rejection from Three-Lobed Burning Eye Magazine and a 1-day from Interzone. Up to 36 now for the year.
I’ve found agents to be slower now than at any earlier time since I’ve been querying. It’s really, really tough. You just can’t assume anything at the moment whether silence is a rejection etc. I have to say I do find agents that just say silence is a rejection to be really frustrating. They could find a way to send a pro forma F off but they can’t be bothered. Makes me feel they think their time is more valuable than mine yet without submissions they don’t have a job!
Do we count rejection letters or items submitted that get rejected? For example, if I submit five poems to a journal and all are rejected, is that one rejection or five?
Go upthread a little and you'll find a discussion on this very point. Broad consensus, there aren't any rules to follow here and it's up to you. Personally, I advise measuring the volume of bitter tears shed over a single rejection (you could keep it in a jar for future reference), then weigh against what's shed over the multiple rejections, noting temperature, humidity, wind factor if outdoors and any other environmental variables, then record it according to whatever you think sounds right. I choose to record my similar as three rather than one but that's mostly because I was falling behind in the count.
Ask and you shall receive. A 5-day form rejection from The Dread Machine, along with a 36-day agent form rejection. Up to 38 now.
I think I’ll just go with poem count. In that case, I’ve had 11 rejections this year, though one of the journals that rejected one of mine accepted two others.
That's so exciting! Best of luck! You simply love to see it. I received a 6-day personalized rejection from Beneath Ceaseless Skies this afternoon. I've only submitted this story a handful of times, yet this is the second personalized rejection, so I feel like I've got to be close with this one.. Edit: oh yes that makes it 39 now
When it rains, it pours. A 3-day rejection from Fusion Fragment, two 7-day rejections from Orion's Belt, a 45-day agent rejection, and an 85-day agent rejection (this one I thought would've been a solid fit, so this stinks). All form letters. Bleh. I'll count that double as one, so I'm up to 43 on the year. Maybe I will take the lead soon. 41 form rejections, 2 personalized (for short stories), no requests for additional materials or rewrites. EDIT: just found another one in my junk folder, a 1-day form rejection from Clarkesworld Magazine. Guess I am tied for first now with 44.
