I've decided to write my first novel. Fiction, graphic, intense, happy ending etc. Glad to be here. Just a couple of questions. 1. Are there actual published(famous) author's here? 2. Is there any sections to read stories/post stories/get feedback--thinking short stories-poetry- etc. 3. Any contests at this site? 4.. anything I need to know right off the bat?? G
My friend, I have the answer to all of those questions 1) Yes, though famous? - Like J.K. Rowling? I don't know. Here are links of interviewed authors: Interviews 2) The The Review Room has everything you'll need. Critique and you shall be critiqued. 3) Yes, there are weekly contests here: "Consequences" Short Story Contest, Weekly Short Story Contest, Weekly Poetry Contest There is a contest "the Consequences" one - that is worth 50 bucks and three months of special services if you win. 4) Cog will post it But, in any sense, just browse around, critique a few works, share with others your own, and maybe stop by the RPG forum to test out your writing skills in different scenarios or the Lounge for a good chat. Welcome
Hi Gary, and welcome! I think Oasis answered most of your questions. Congrats on your decision to start writing your own novel.
Hello Gary, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Welcome to the site, I think most of your questions have already been answered now but just ask if there's anything else you would like clarifying
