Probably not a big surprise to anyone, but it looks like we're on to the damages phase. And then the appeal, no doubt. http://allthingsd.com/20130710/apple-loses-e-book-antitrust-trial/?mod=atd_homepage_carousel
It's not just Apple - if they were guilty of price fixing - they had to have co-conspirators and this paragraph is copied and pasted from http://www.thejournal.ie/apple-guilty-price-fixing-986990-Jul2013/ Among the publishers settling the case, the largest was with Penguin for $75 million, while a settlement with Hachette, Harper Collins and Simon & Schuster created a $69 million fund for refunds to consumers. Macmillan settled for $26 million. I love seeing the big boys taken down a few notches especially when they are caught conning the punter on the street and they come much bigger!
Yes, good point erebh. The court found that Apple really facilitated the whole thing, but the publishers were certainly involved, and they all settled prior to trial.
That's 170 MILLION dollars they have conned Joe Public by - this money is put into a fund for people to come forward and say they bought a book at the 'illegally fixed' price and then claim a 2 dollar refund. And these are the people we, as authors, are begging to take on and publish our books, for a pittance - laughable but they have all the power obviously.
